The Greenhouse

The brief

Owned by restaurateur Marlon Abela, the two Michelin star restaurant in the heart of Mayfair has always been a magnet for food connoisseurs and those seeking a truly gastronomic experience.

The aim was to also break the stiff formality that characterises many ‘fine dining’ gastronomic temples, making it more casual and relaxed.

Our approach

Situated down a beautiful Mayfair mews, through a tree-lined pathway and garden the creative inspiration was not difficult to find.

We aimed to eliminate the boundaries between the interior and the green areas outside. Specially commissioned sculptures made of interlaying willow appear to grow inside the main space within a restrained and calming overall ambiance. Centre stage in the restaurant is the shaded opulence of the private dining room surrounded by a subtle pattern of leaves engraved on glass panels, creating another link with nature. Graphics, menus and uniforms styling were also considered as part of the overall design.

Zagat London Restaurant Guide praised it as: “A splendid setting, as tranquil, beautifully designed and classy as it fabulous corner of Mayfair…Definitely one of London most stylish temples of gastronomy”.
