Manufaktura Brand Identity

The brief

The project involved the recycling and transformation of a formally disused textile factory into a 36 hectare shopping and leisure destination giving a new heart to the Polish City of Lodz.

We were tasked with creating the interior architecture of a unique shopping experience, the graphic and navigation strategy, the design of the central market ‘piazza’, the creation of engaging zones and the overall identity of Manufaktura as a brand.

Our approach

The bold approach to the brand identity was a driving force of the scheme and a unifying factor within this large multi-purpose development. Large-scale use of colour and pattern set against the cast iron window grill design of the original building became the defining components of the brand identity.

Three-dimensional way-finding ‘art’ pieces and graffiti style graphics create a forward-looking, energetic and theatrical atmosphere to both internal and external spaces.

Manufaktura won both the prestigious ICSC European Shopping Centre Award for best ‘Very Large New Development’ and the ICSC Design and Development award for ‘Innovative Design and Renovation of a New Project”.
